Jabber instant messaging client. This means that it is a chat program that is compatible with AOL, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, and IRC (as long as the server you connect to supports these). It supports tons of smiley faces, plugins, file transfers, a spell checker, and more. Pidgin was formerly called Gaim.
